Your Buying Guide to Procuring Nuts
When you buy nuts for industrial fastening, you need to consider more than size and price. This guide helps you understand nut types, thread systems, standards, strength grades, proof load stress, material options and assembly matching, so you can communicate your requirements more clearly with the manufacturer.

What is Nut?
Nut is a type of fastener with a threaded hole, always used with bolts to fasten two or more objects by threads. The nut and bolt are kept together by their threads’ friction (with slight elastic deformation), a slight stretching of the bolt, and compression of the parts to be held together.
Nut Thread type: M/UNC/UNF
Nut threads must match the mating bolt, stud or threaded rod. Metric threads are common in DIN and ISO systems, while UNC and UNF threads are widely used in inch-based markets. Before placing a bulk nut order, you should confirm thread size, pitch and standard to avoid assembly problems.

Nut Dimension Standard
Nut standards define dimensions, thread requirements, mechanical properties and compatibility with mating fasteners. Common standards include ASTM A563, ASTM A194, SAE J995, ISO 898-2, DIN934 and ASME B18.2.2. Choosing the right grade helps ensure the nut matches the bolt strength and application load.

How to Match Nuts with Bolts, Studs and Washers?
To match nuts correctly, you should check thread type, thread size, grade, material, coating thickness and standard compatibility. A high-strength bolt may require a matching high-strength nut and washer, while hot dip galvanized assemblies may need proper thread allowance and compatible coated components.
How to Choose Nut Material and Surface Finish?
Choose nut material and surface finish according to strength requirement, corrosion exposure and installation environment. Carbon steel nuts are used for general industrial fastening, alloy steel nuts for higher strength, and stainless steel nuts for corrosion resistance. Zinc plating and hot dip galvanizing are common surface treatments for different protection needs.
